cube house

Unlike the many other projects with the same moniker, the cube house is literally that, a 32' x 32' x 32' cube. The service core of the home is loaded as a bar across the front of the house. The entry is though this bar which contains the functional elements of a foyer - a bench and a place to store a coat. Adjacent, the plan opens to the dining and living room, which shares a spatial volume with the second floor, and also opens to the back of the property through a two story window wall. The stair landings were slightly enlarged to allow for individual moments of program at each level - a computer work station, a reading bench, and shelving for a book collection. The glass in the stairwell has a frosted finish to diffuse the light. On the third floor the master bedroom opens up to a private balcony overlooking the rear of the property.
