ravine chapel

toronto, canada
1/3

This project is about an individual’s spiritual journey from the secular to the spiritual. The ravine is a part of the sacred realm, and the neighborhood on its rim is the profane. A dialogue is setup between the sacred (the chapel) and profane (the cloister), in which the profane is understood as that which shapes one’s understanding of the sacred. The path to the sacred is not the most direct path, but requires exploration culminating in a moment where one must move single file into the realm of the sacred. The chapel is an object embedded in the landscape into which the form of the sacred has been carved way.
