Today we’re screening Malcom Muggeridge’s documentary A Third Testament on Saint Augustine. We’re excited about further exploring Saint Augustine’s ideal City of God and our vision of “on earth as it is in heaven.” Augustine related his own day and age to eternity; he saw the fall of the earthly city and envisioned the City of God— a city that would endure. In Muggeridge’s words, “Saint Augustine’s great conclusion is that in its sojourn here, the heavenly city makes use of the peace of the earthly city, subordinated in every way to His will in a life of fellowship.”
The life of the City of God is utterly and entirely a life of fellowship. In our practice we strive to tear down the barriers erected by centuries of inequity, ennobling communities through the embrace of one’s brothers and sisters.
